This month, we're changing things up a bit and making it easier than ever for you to get caught up with our alumni. Instead of writing a long blog that requires you read (who even reads anymore?), our Managing Director, Patrick Rea, sat down with deepgreen CEO, Colin Ferrian, to talk not only about the company and being an entrepreneur but about tech in cannabis and general agriculture as a whole.

Get caught up before you listen:

Deepgreen co-founders, Maxime Claus and Max Unfried, originally met in Vietnam where they were leveraging their respective experience in computer science and physics for artificial intelligence programs. And while their start in AI was focused on helping fund managers find the right areas of investment, their mutual farming backgrounds led them to start building a program to help farmers more easily identify one of the worst crop killers - powdery mildew.

The leap into cannabis was the obvious choice as the emerging industry has the cash, saturation and risk-tolerant nature necessary for new technologies to thrive; and, of course, CanopyBoulder was the perfect place to build the company from beta to operating business. During the program, the team refined their business and brought on corporate finance pro, Colin Ferrian, as co-founder and CEO.

The team of three are still going strong a year later, even expanding outside of the cannabis industry into the greater agriculture space. They’re a great example of how new tech can leverage cannabis for rapid growth.
